As you mentioned it can be used in some innovative ways and I expect more to come. But it is not the one solution to rule them all. At least, if you want to be in a retailing business. On the other hand: Music flatrate services like Napster or Jamba are only possible with DRM schemes in place. Four Music in Germany and EMI are selling songs in plain mp3. Nice move and probably part of a "go wide" strategy. The question for DRM is: If everything is available without DRM what good does a DRMS do? Rigth now there are some serious initatives in the music industry to circumvent DRM in order to get on all devices i.e.ipods.
